Do You Have A Clear Defined Plan?

Do you have a plan?

When you started out in business, you had high hopes. The real estate agents would flock to you, asking you to inspect their clients’ homes. Homeowners would look to you to give them the best value for the price.

Then reality set in. You realized how difficult it is to be found in a crowded marketplace. So you started to market yourself—front door flyers, postcards, networking groups, etc. started filling up your to-do list and your calendar. And you started spending more money that you probably shouldn’t have.

But it’s hard to stay consistent in marketing when you have a business to run. As a business owner, you have many different hats to wear and sometimes you’re wearing three or four at once.

• As President/Owner, you are the bottom line in your business. It’s your neck on the line if your business sinks or swims. And that leads you to feel the need to engage in any number of the following roles at any time of the day or night.

• As your in-house Marketing Director, you are responsible for developing the content that goes out to the public—whether it’s marketing emails, advertising, mail campaigns or your website, it’s your responsibility to make sure it’s done and done well.

• Your business needs to make sales to stay afloat, so you’re your company’s primary Salesperson. You follow up with clients and close those inspection inquiries so your Inspector/Technician (also you) earns his keep.

• As acting Receptionist, you answer the phone when clients and prospects call, schedule inspections, purchase supplies and send out final reports to clients. You need to be within arm’s reach of your phone and computer at all times.

• Someone needs to put together those inspection reports so they are informative, complete and easy to read. That’s your job as the Report Writer. You act as technician assistant and communications expert as well.

• And probably not every client will be thrilled with your work, so your Customer Service Director needs to put on his interference hat as he works with the client and the technician (you, again) to resolve any issues and ensure the client’s satisfaction.

• And none of this can be accomplished without your Accountant/Bookkeeper sending invoices, cashing checks and paying employees—like you.
